It seems an easy theme, yet I couldn't do the thing to my satisfaction. But there was plenty of talk on the subject as soon as we got settled inthe Hamilton Hotel. I mean to do my best to make a good magazine; I mean to do my whole duty, & not shirk any part of it. My idea of our civilization is that it is a shoddy, poor thing & full of cruelties, vanities, arrogancies, meannesses, & hypocrisies.
